Her words

She has always been there, and soon she is not there anymore. The grandmother’s words carry the family that has emerged on the farm on the island of Öland.

The narrator Tove returns again and again to save words and memories. She wants to be a continuation. Then she and her wife arrive in the queue at Reproductive Medicine. They have longed and are close now, she believes. They join the clinical world of donor registers, freezer recaps and curatorial talks. But death is out there on the stairs. And in the farm’s warden tree, the seed pods rustle yellow already. It’s summer.

Her words is about longing for children, but also about losing the fragile dream in the brutal meeting with reality. It is a story of a branch that is being broken, a love that must be taken advantage of.

The new novel by author Tove Folkesson will be released in September.
